Evolution & Systematics
E. godeffroyi is the only species of the genus that has been recorded in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean (Granja-Fernández et al., 2013). Recently a specimen of this species was observed in Mexico, which helps fill the distribution gap that previously existed from Mexico (Isla Isabel) to Costa Rica (Golfito) (Granja-Fernández et al., 2013). Six species have been described world-wide for the Euapta genus; E. lappa, E. polli, E. magna, E. tobagoensis, E. tahitiensis and E. godeffroyi (Granja-Fernández et al., 2013). A recent study reviewed the taxonomy of the holothurians has re-characterised the genus as only comprising of two species, E. lappa and E. godeffroyi (Kerr, 2011). |
